HydroPro™ hydrostatic protection

Engineered defence against groundwater pressure — critical on sloping blocks, clay soils and waterlogged sites where standard shells can lift or crack.

Every buried fibreglass pool sits inside a hole in the ground. When it rains heavily — or when the water table sits high — that hole can fill with groundwater. The pool shell is buoyant, so groundwater under the shell tries to lift the pool upward. This is called hydrostatic pressure.

On badly-drained sites, a shell without hydrostatic protection can literally float upward — cracking coping, breaking pipework, sometimes distorting the shell itself. It happens on plenty of pools, and it is expensive to fix retrospectively.

Standard, not extra

Some pool builders sell hydrostatic protection as an optional upgrade. Compass builds it into every installation and has done since January 2016. On the Mid-North-Coast — with our clay soils and sudden coastal rain events — this is not the sort of thing we would leave out.

Compass backs the system with a lifetime hydrostatic warranty (transferable to new owners for 25 years) — believed to be the only warranty of its type in the Australian fibreglass pool market.

The short version

  • Below-shell drainage layer captures rising groundwater.
  • Patented HydroPro™ pressure-relief valve — 5× industry flow rate.
  • Prevents shell lift, cracked coping and broken pipework.
  • Critical on sloping blocks, clay soils and high water tables.
  • Lifetime hydrostatic warranty, transferable up to 25 years.

How HydroPro handles it

How HydroPro handles it

HydroPro is a purpose-built hydrostatic relief system fitted at install: a below-shell drainage layer plus a patented pressure-relief valve that releases rising groundwater pressure at rates five times greater than industry-standard valves.

It works quietly, in the background, on every rainy season for the life of the pool. You do not maintain it and you do not see it — but on the day the water table rises, it does its job.

FAQs

HydroPro™ hydrostatic protection — questions we hear most

What is hydrostatic damage and why does it matter?

When groundwater rises higher than the water in your pool — during heavy rain or on high-water-table sites — the shell becomes buoyant and tries to float. That upward pressure can crack the coping, break pipework, or in extreme cases distort the shell itself. It's the number one cause of catastrophic fibreglass pool failure in Australia.

How does the HydroPro valve prevent this?

HydroPro is a patented pressure-relief valve fitted through the pool floor, paired with a below-shell drainage layer. When groundwater pressure rises, the valve releases it into the pool at rates five times faster than an industry-standard valve. Pressure equalises before it can lift the shell.

Do I need to maintain the HydroPro system?

No — it's passive. There's nothing to service, no filter to change, no batteries. It sits quietly and only activates when groundwater pressure rises. Compass has designed it to last the life of the pool.

Is HydroPro an optional upgrade?

No — it's standard on every Compass shell manufactured since January 2016 at no extra cost. On the Mid-North-Coast with our clay soils and sudden coastal rain events, it's not the sort of thing we'd leave out.

What does the hydrostatic warranty actually cover?

Compass backs the HydroPro system with a lifetime hydrostatic warranty — believed to be the only warranty of its type in the Australian fibreglass pool market. It covers damage caused by hydrostatic events, which is almost always excluded from home insurance and standard pool manufacturer warranties. Transferable to new owners for up to 25 years.

Does HydroPro work on sloping blocks and high-water-table sites?

Yes — those are the sites where it matters most. Combined with proper site drainage that we install as part of the build, HydroPro handles the range of groundwater conditions we see across the Port Macquarie region including river-flat blocks, hillside blocks, and clay-soil suburbs.
