Standard, not optional
Ceramic Core is not an upgrade. Every Compass shell is built this way, right through the flagship range and the Compass Express range. When we quote you a Compass pool, this construction is included in the base price.
A patented layered shell that sandwiches a ceramic core between structural fibreglass — significantly stronger than a standard fibreglass pool, and standard on every Compass shell.
A standard fibreglass pool is a laminated stack of resin and glass fibre. Ceramic Core adds a third layer to that stack — a bead of ceramic reinforcement running through the wall of the shell — bonded between two structural fibreglass skins.
The result is a composite: the fibreglass supplies the flex, the ceramic layer supplies the compressive strength. It looks the same from the finished side, and behaves very differently over twenty years in the ground.

Every pool spends its life resisting the pressure of the soil around it. Wet ground pushes in from the sides. Dry ground shrinks and creates voids. Heavy rain saturates the backfill. Temperature swings expand and contract the shell.
A Ceramic Core shell resists compressive load about twice as well as a plain fibreglass shell of the same thickness. That translates into fewer flex cracks, no visible osmotic blistering over decades, and a shape that stays true — the reason Compass can offer a lifetime structural warranty.
It's a shell built as a three-layer composite: structural fibreglass on the outside, a ceramic-reinforced core in the middle, structural fibreglass on the swim-side. The ceramic layer gives the shell much greater compressive strength than plain laminated fibreglass — up to double, at the same wall thickness.
No — it's standard on every Compass shell, from the smallest plunge pool through to the Fastlane and Express ranges. It's not offered as an option and there's no lower-spec fibreglass-only version of a Compass pool.
No — the ceramic is buried between the two fibreglass skins, not on the swim side. The swim-side finish is the Bi-Luminite (or Vivid) gelcoat you choose. The pool feels and looks identical to any other high-end fibreglass pool from the water side.
Long-term ground movement, saturated backfill, temperature-swing expansion, and osmotic blistering. In practice: fewer flex cracks over 20+ years, no visible surface blistering, and a shape that stays true. It's why Compass can offer a lifetime structural warranty on Bi-Luminite pools.
Vinyl ester resin is a chemical improvement in the fibreglass laminate itself — Compass pools use vinyl ester too. Ceramic Core is a physical extra layer added on top of that. Some other brands use vinyl ester and market it as "premium" — Compass uses vinyl ester AND adds the ceramic composite layer.
Yes — the composite is repairable using the same techniques as standard fibreglass, just with matching ceramic-core material where the reinforcement layer needs restoring. In 20+ years of local installs we've had very few structural claims — the warranty is genuinely rarely tested.
